Airbus A340 - Air Mauritius
Mauritius is a small paradise-like tropical island in the Indian Ocean about 800 km east of Madagascar. It is famous for its white beaches, clear sea water, mountains and tropical forests. With a population of around 1.2 million people the island has a rather big intercontinental airline, Air Mauritius. Air Mauritius was founded in 1967 and began airline operations in 1972 with a Piper Navajo.
Today Air Mauritius flies to points in Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia and offers domestic services to other islands. Part of the fleet are five Airbus A340-300 aircraft. The first Airbus was delivered in 1994 and the airline has three more on order. Air Mauritius was the first airline on the southern hemisphere to fly the A340. The aircraft on the picture is approaching London Heathrow Airport.
