Boeing delivers the first 767-300 to JAL Japan Airlines. 
::   December 3, 1986 :: 
British Caledonian Airways is the first airline to order the proposed McDonnell Douglas MD-11. BCal wants nine aircraft of the type.
:: December 30, 1986 ::  
McDonnell Douglas launches the MD-11, with firm orders for 52 aircraft from 12 airlines, plus 40 options.

:: June 5, 1987 ::
Airbus officially launches the A330 and A340 as one single project.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 makes its maiden flight.

 Boeing delivers first of two presidential 747-200s (Air Force One) to the U.S. Air Force.

United Airlines orders 34 Boeing 777s and takes options on 34 more.
:: October 29, 1990 ::
The Boeing board of directors approves the launch of the 777.

The FAA certifies the McDonnell Douglas MD-11.

McDonnell Douglas delivers the first McDonnell Douglas MD-11 to Finnair
