Wardair was founded by Maxwell Ward in 1946 as Polaris Charter Co. In 1952 it was renamed as Wardair Ltd. The airline became very active on the transatlantic routes, but also flew to the Carribbean, Mexico and parts of the USA. During the 1980s Wardair was the third airline of Canada. Wardair became part of Canadian Airlines in January 1990.

There were twelve A310-300 aircraft in the fleet at that moment, plus three Boeing 747s. The photograph shows a Wardair Airbus A310 landing at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
